ALTER EGO TONIC (Modern Harmonic Contrast Ideas over a Major Tonic Chord)

In this short harmonic study I explore a very fun and easy way to create harmonic tension/contrast over a Major Tonic chord.

All examples and phrases are illustrated within the context of a ii-V-I progression where the Tonic chord is the point of final rest and harmonic resolution.

As we do not expect to hear tension too often at the end of a cadence (as that function is usually reserved for the Dominant stage - V7 chord - of the progression) the implementation of these concepts can produce a very fresh sound and add an element of surprise to our harmonic improvisational vocabulary.
