CHROMATIC METHENYISMS (Chroma 251s: minor) + Video Masterclass + backing tracks
CHROMATIC METHENYISMS (Chroma 251s: minor)
In this chapter of my “Chromatic Methenyisms” book series I explore the way I like to organize, practice and internalize ii-V-i vocabulary on the instrument.
The study and video masterclass explore in depth a Metheny inspired ii-V-i phrase in the key of F minor which is assembled from specific melodic material that is prevalent in his improvisational style on the album "Question and Answer" and especially the recording of "All The Things You Are."
The original phrase is then expanded into multiple derivatives that share important structural and stylistic melodic elements from the original line.
The accompanying video masterclass contains all examples performed at tempo as well as slowed down and in the transcription you will find a detailed description of the specific articulation and phrasing used to achieve the melodic sensibility and feel of Metheny.
The video tutorial will also cover in great depth the mechanics, detailed construction and concepts behind the application of this style of melodic ornamentation.
